Final Exploration

The official last day in Portugal - but still time to tour around parts of Lisbon. Early Sunday morning, many things are still closed and there are definitely less people walking around, but it is a different kind of vibe for sure. Remnants of the shenanigans from Saturday night party goers, were definitely visible - beer bottles, wine bottles, litter etc...and the street cleaners were out doing their thing.

Our destination this morning was Pink Street...a quirky little part of town. It was cool to see it empty but would be even better to see it lively with all the bars and restaurants open and packed with people.

Then off to Green Street is an idyllic and charming alley right downtown, a quiet walkway lined with plants, old buildings, low doorways, and specialty shops. Again many of the shops were still closed because it was Sunday morning, but interesting little pocket of Lisbon.

Augusta Arch was is a place I have seen many times while in Lisbon but never have gone to the top until today. The cost was only 3.50 Euros. There was an elevator part way up, then 74 steps on a spiral staircase that was rather tight and narrow to the top. Good views despite being a cloudy and overcast day - again less people on a Sunday morning. We could see two cruise ships in port, the April 25 Bridge (that looks like the Golden Gate Bridge), the Christ Statue and the Castle de Sao Jorge and overlooking the pedestrian street - Rua Augusta. Definitely worth the price of admission.

We headed back to the hotel to check out and store our luggage and go for lunch before heading to the airport later in the afternoon. We decided to go to the Bairro Alto neighbourhood - located in the more hilly part of Lisbon - be prepared to climb some steps!

What is this substance falling from the sky? A little rain...haven't seen that during our entire holiday. It was short lived and gave us a spot for lunch that was deserted, but had a great view. I would love to see this place on a glorious sunny day - but probably would not get a seat!

Sadly it was time to head to the airport in our last Uber of the trip - which was just under 9 Euros. Luggage drop, security and immigration was really easy and fairly quick. Our flight was fairly uneventful, except we thought this family of 9 or 10 that was monopolizing the entire lounge area would be a complete gong show once on the plane. Surely they would not be seating near us...but of course they were - the 3 rows directly in front of us. Fortunately once we took off, the kids went to sleep. Ahhhh, silence. haha!

No complaints once we landed in Toronto - again, fast moving lines and our luggage showed up! All good! Another great Michelle and Diane Adventure. If you have not visited Portugal - get there while you can!
