Grottos, Cliffs and Stunning Views

The adventure continues...

Yesterday was spectacular views from the water...today was spectacular views overlooking the water. Today was hiking day - the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail was the plan for the day. We took an Uber to the starting point of the hike - Praia da Marinha - which took about 20-25 minutes. We were packed ready with water and snacks - let's go!

The trail is listed as medium difficulty and it lived up to that rating. There were some open flat areas, but also many times where we needed to climb and scramble on the rocks, which were situated like a natural staircase, so it was quite easy to navigate. There were even some actual wooden staircases along the way. Fenced off in most places near the edges of drop off cliffs - but not everywhere so you definitely need to be safe and smart where you are walking - getting that perfect selfie would not be worth it if you tumbled down the side of a cliff into the water. Lots of people on the trail and the trail was clearly marked - you can't get lost.

Incredible and stunning views with every turn - grottos, stony arches, natural bridges and precarious sea stacks where seabirds nest and rest - WOW! We also saw Alfanzina lighthouse, Benagil Beach and Carvalho Beach - incredible! The length of the trail was 6km. We stopped for some refreshments at Carvalho Beach and a good place to pee - or else you are using nature's bathroom behind some bush - but no guarantee that another hiker will not see you!
